With the weather warming up, I am proud to introduce a new item here at Beanies and Weenies: Barefoot Sandals! They are perfect for the summer. Whether you are at an outdoor wedding or just taking a long walk down the beach, these barefoot sandal anklets will look cute with any outfit. The main body of the barefoot sandal measures 4 in (10.16 cm) long and 1.5 in (3.81 cm) wide. The loop that fits over the toe is 2.5 in (6.35 cm) around and the straps at the ankle are both 8 in (20.32 cm) long. They easily fit over wider ankles. The crochet thread that they are made with gives it a beautiful lacy appearance. They are now available on Etsy! Be sure and order yours today!
Beanies and Weenies reached a new milestone this week: the first online custom order through Etsy was shipped! It is very exciting to have figured out the Etsy shipping process and now consider myself an official online merchant. Spreading the word about Beanies and Weenies has been an important part of my business. Without social media, I would not be reaching as many people. Sharing new photos of my items for sale on Instagram, posting business updates on Facebook, and keeping up a blog here has gotten the word out about my handmade items. It is hard work and can be very confusing and hard to keep up with, but keeping up appearance on social media is well worth it. My stats have read that I have reached over 300 people a day! I have viewers in Russia, Ukraine, France, and more! That is incredible! I never thought that my work would be seen like this.
Using social media is hard work that needs to be kept up on a daily basis, and that is something that I have a hard time remembering to do. Between school, work, eating, and sleeping, I barely have enough time to check social media, much less post detailed post and search for similar users. If you check my post history, I'm sure you will find plenty of gaps in time. I have managed to find a few methods that help get my posts seen. One is the use of tags. Tags, hashtags. Whatever you want to call them, they make posts easier to notice. While they are not enough to get posts found in search, it will make them more available. I think that following others who post the same things under the same tags and liking their updates helps people get found. While, I still mystified by users who gain thousands upon thousands of followers, I am slowing making my way there! I will find the key to social media sharing eventually! Stay tuned, I have a few more summer items to be added on Etsy. Keeping checking back for updates! It has been a while since I have been able to sit down and work on Beanies and Weenies. With the end of the semester, finals, and graduation, I have been super busy. But now that the end is near, my free time has thankfully grown. Now I get to dedicate more of my time to this wonderful business venture. Over the past month, Beanies and Weenies has grown. I have been processing my first custom order on Etsy! That is huge milestone for me and I am very proud to be sending off that package this week! Also, I have created a personal Fiverr account where you can find me under the name jennilouhoo. There, I am selling small online services like proofreading/editing papers, writing reviews, and writing customized stories all starting at $5. Feel free to check it out!
While my small little business is growing, there are more things I am having to figure out. My online presence is still small. I am reaching more and more people with every post, but I only have a small number of views and those aren't leading to great sales. I am doing my best to use every social media outlet possible, but I am horrible at getting followers. Beanies and Weenies has a facebook, twitter, instagram, tumblr, and pinterest. Even my personal accounts suck. I use tags as often as I can, but other than that, I am clueless as how to spread the word about Beanies and Weenies. Here, online, I try tagging the website, webpages, and even the pictures, but search engine optimization is not my specialty either. I have tried dozens of times to get Google AdSense approved, but I fail every time. My goal for the end of summer is to finally master social media and search engines and finally have my website AdSense approved. If there is anyone out there who has advice, I am all ears. I feel that I could make a better profit if I could grow my social media presence. Reaching more people would mean better sales, and that is my other goal for the end of summer. With moving off to college right around the corner, it is more important now than ever to get a hang of online marketing. So far, working on Beanies and Weenies has been fun. It has been a way for me to turn my hobbies into a profit as well as a learning experience. I am learning more about online sales, marketing, and SEO than in my introduction to business class. Hopefully, this summer will provide me with plenty of time to learn even more. |
