DIY Wreath: Make Your Own Summer Wreath

Having just moved in my first apartment, I felt the need to create a DIY wreath to spruce up my plain front door for summer. DIY projects are a great way to pass the time during the summer. They keep you busy and creative. Making a summer wreath seems daunting, but it is actually quite simple to make your own wreath once you know what to use. 

When it came to making a summer wreath, I was inspired by all of the greenery surrounding my apartment. I'm lucky to enough to live in an apartment with a pretty forest view from my patio and wanted to reflect that in my summer wreath. And don't forget all the beautiful blooming flowers that you can include in your DIY wreath.

After stocking up on some clearance flowers from Hobby Lobby, I sat down with a wreath ring and some burlap to put together a DIY wreath. I had a small wreath ring, so I didn't want to bombard it with too many flowers. I purposely chose a bushel of flowers that has more greenery than its small white buds because of how green the summertime is. The small white buds made my summer wreath pop. All of the materials are easy to find and use so you shouldn't having a problem when you make your own DIY wreath.

So grab all of your favorite summertime materials because here's how you can make your own DIY wreath for summer!

Materials:

• Wreath Ring
• Wreath Hanger
• Burlap Roll
• Summer Flower Bushel
• Summer Fern Leaves (optional)
• Hot Glue Gun or Floral Wire

Steps:
1. Begin by wrapping the burlap around the wreath ring to create your DIY wreath for summer. Do it slowly so as not to let the burlap bunch up in certain areas or leave other spots too sparse. Use a hot glue gun to join the ends of burlap into staying. If you do not want to use hot glue (if you are trying to save your wreath ring, flowers, or burlap) you can use floral wire.

2. Next, trim your summer flower bushel until it becomes individual stems. There are usually 5 or 6 stems in a bushel, so you will have plenty to work with. Pick 2 stems of summer flowers and gently bend them to fit the curve of the wreath ring.

​3. From here, stick your 2 summer flower stems within the folds of the burlap, one on each side of the wreath. Make sure you put them at the same height on each side to make DIY summer wreath even. It might take some more adjusting of the stems to get the flowers and leaves to lay right. If you want to add some more greenery to your wreath, you can add fern leaves around the summer flowers. When you are finished, glue down the stems, the ends, and any flower or burlap that is sticking out.

My front door looks cute just in time for the first week of summer and now you can make your own!
